This Seems Fun
It's 49ers-Eagles in NFL Week 13 and then a bunch of other games that shouldn't be as good; NC news; Bettin' on face-slappin'
Are we getting the NFC Championship Game Part I on Sunday?
It kind of feels like it. And the betting possibilities are pretty interesting.
Granted, the Cowboys are ultra-talented and will probably put a major thump on the Seahawks’ wildcard hopes on Thursday Night Football.
The Lions won in Kansas City and have shown some real promise.
But, come on. Both have flaws, and you’ll bet against both in the first round of the playoffs.
49ers-Eagles, though, has some juice.
10-1 Eagles and 8-3 Niners in Philadelphia.
And the fun part, as I hit that publish button, the Purdys were as high as a 3-point favorite at multiple sportsbooks on the road.
At FanDuel, the 49ers are co-favorites to win the Super Bowl (with the Chiefs) at +430. The Eagles are next at +460. As for Sunday, 71% of the handle is on San Francisco to cover the -2.5 spread.
Says bet365:
Early line PHI -1.5, now SF -2.5 … ML flipped -140 PHI to +125.. unders taking a little more than overs at this stage. Current line sees more PHI action on +2.5 and +125 ML.
6-6-?
Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland has a record five pick-sixes with six games left in the season. Seattle quarterback Geno Smith figures to be slinging it a lot on Thursday.
Fancy a bet on a sixth INT return for a touchdown?
Many books have Bland as high as +3000 to score tonight on TNF.
Week 13 Eye-Ballin’
The road is separating between teams with playoff chances and those playing out the string.
Bettors are backing clubs with the most to lose as the final third of the regular season descends. Here are our NFL Betting Trends for Week 13, including odds and analysis, as December dawns.
Eagles Future Bets Could Cash This Weekend
A preseason bet on Philadelphia to make the playoffs wasn’t exactly like buying Apple stock in 1980. But, hey, right is right, and money is money.
From the NFL:
Philadelphia clinches playoff berth with:
Eagles win + Rams loss or tie OR
Eagles win + Lions loss + Packers loss or tie OR
Eagles tie + Rams loss + Packers loss or tie + Falcons loss or tie OR
Eagles tie + Rams loss + Packers loss or tie + Saints loss or tie
Simple, basically.
Rodgers Has a Shot
(That will always be funny)
Remember when all those sportsbooks refunded Aaron Rodgers MVP future bets? Ultimately, they just bought positive public relations. And the quarterback isn’t under center yet. Still, you wonder when sportsbooks will stop doing this.
Not Top-10 Play for ESPN BET
ESPN BET took a public relations pounding this week when a bettor had a five-leg parlay and scored a loss, although he won four of the bets and the other pushed. All other sportsbooks we’re aware of would have regraded the parlay.
Anyone else get stung by this?
Life Is Just a Fantasy
Remember when you traded Josh Jacobs on Tuesday because you needed to upgrade at wide receiver, and you had Jonathan Taylor and Isiah Pacheco anyway?
Oh, wait. That was me.
Dave Bontempo’s Week 12 NFL Recap
DraftKings, which initially installed Philadelphia -1.5 a week ago, moved that number to San Francisco -1.5 early Monday morning. That’s revealing, with the Niners being 8-3 and on the road to a 10-1 opponent.
Would You Slap Down a Bet on … Slapping?
What You Need To Know About NC Sports Betting:
If you’re wondering whether or not sports betting is legal in North Carolina – the short answer is yes. However, it’s a little more complicated than that. While sports betting is legal, online betting remains prohibited until January 2024.
As of November 2023, there are only three retail locations in North Carolina where you can place a sports bet. Under the current law, sports betting is only permitted in casinos, and the three tribal Casinos – Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River, and the Catawba Two Kings Casino in King’s Mountain, situated to the west of the state capital, Charlotte.
N.C. Double-Dip: bet365 Dunks on DraftKings-Hornets Expectations; No Retail Book Planned
We all assumed the Michael Jordan connection would sign and seal the Hornets for DraftKings in North Carolina. Jordan is a minority Hornets owner after selling most of his stake and remains a DraftKings advisor.
Didn’t matter. bet365 will gain market access to North Carolina via the Hornets, who became the first pro franchise there to make such a pact.
It might be shrewd for the Hornets to partner with a sportsbook hoping to get in early and grow its .3% national market share. They should try hard.
DraftKings and FanDuel, which comprise 30% and 26% of the national market, respectively, can go woo David Tepper and fight over the Panthers contract.
NC Triad: No Legal Betting for Super Bowl
North Carolina sports betting will not launch in time for the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.
This is no surprise. The slow pace of rule-making had made it apparent that the state would not attain the early side of its legal launch window on Jan. 8 and would likely be closer to summer.

Mark Cuban is selling a majority of the Mavericks to Miriam Adelson, as in Las Vegas Sands. Cuban has long pined for a Dallas casino to augment his arena. I’d love to read this thought bubble right now.

Any multi-leg wager I have made over the years, no matter the book, if one leg is a push, and the others all win, it ALWAYS goes down to the next level, and is graded as a winner.
