Back to School and…Back to Betting on the NFL!
Sports betting news and information for bettors by bettors ...
If your Facebook feed is anything like mine, you've seen a ton of back-to-school pictures recently. What we don't see is the huge smile on Mom or Dad's face as they take the picture and envision what they may do with the free time they are about to have.
Will they read more, catch up on their favorite TV shows, work around the house, etc.?
It’s different for everyone, but if you think it is high time you get back to betting on the NFL, I can't argue with you there. But I can help by referencing the great content our excellent writers have produced over the last week.
Book to Football Shopping: Pick the Sportsbook That is Right for You
Of course, there is more to the wide world of sports betting than the NFL. The MLB season is heading into crunch time as the regular season nears its end. The UFC never seems to take a break, and neither do pro golfers (at least the ones not on LIV Tour).
There's plenty to talk about, so let's get right to it!
Are You Ready For Some Football?
The question has become cliché over the years, but it is one that you will hear a thousand times in the months ahead (but not from me; I'll just say it a couple of times). We still have two weekends of preseason 'action' to suffer through, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel – real, competitive football is only days away!
However, you do not have to wait until then to put money down on an NFL game. Betting on preseason games can be tricky, but it can be profitable if you have the right preseason betting strategy. If there were ever a time to give betting on the preseason a try, this week would be it, since most teams tend to play their starters for at least a half.
If you need help picking a game to bet on, Ken Bates has you covered with a preview of the action for Week 2 of the NFL Preseason. The preseason would also be an excellent time for new bettors to take advantage of this DraftKings Promo Code.
For those of you not interested in putting money down on some preseason action, we've got plenty of content you may be interested in:

It's Crunch Time for Your Favorite MLB Team
The MLB season has taken an interesting turn with the Yankees on the struggle bus of late, opening the door for the Astros to have the best record in the AL. Houston has also moved ahead of the Yankees on World Series betting boards, but there is still a lot of baseball left to play (so don't lose hope, Yankees fans).
Several division races look like they are over, but the playoff picture is still somewhat open in the AL and NL, with three wild card teams coming from each. As crazy and unlikely as it may seem, the Baltimore Orioles are still in the picture. They would not be in if the playoffs were to start today. But unlike most seasons, they aren't out of it.
The Cy Young picture looks pretty clear halfway through August – both favorites have an implied probability higher than 70%. But that doesn't mean someone can't emerge down the stretch…
Elsewhere In The Wide World Of Sports Betting…
It is easy to get consumed with the NFL, college football, and MLB. But there is more happening than football and baseball. Here are some of the other sports we've covered in the last week:
UFC 278 is this weekend, and DraftKings offers an excellent promo for new users.
Fans of the other football (soccer) can bet on what the future may hold for Man U (relegation?) and Monday's game vs. Liverpool.
Are you missing the NBA? Try betting on the WNBA, whose playoffs are underway. The Liberty are involved, and DraftKings NY has this fantastic offer for New Yorkers.
Bill Bowman has golf covered with a preview for the PGA BMW Championship.
The PGA BMW Championship would not be a bad time to take advantage of the BetMGM Bonus Code.
This Week On The Sports Betting Legal/Business Landscape…
There have been quite a few interesting developments on the legal and business fronts for sports betting in the last week.
FanDuel has become the first sportsbook in the US to achieve profitability. Congratulations to them!
Jake Paul's betting app, Betr, has partnered with the Hall of Fame Village in Ohio.
BetRivers name is now on former PlaySugarHouse App in New Jersey.
It sounds like bettors in Ohio may be able to bet when they're at the bar, shopping for groceries, or bowling.
Major League Baseball has decided to throw its support behind Proposition 27 in California.
A few pro sports teams are getting in on the sports betting fun:
Sorry, Maryland. It does not look like mobile betting will launch before Super Bowl 57.
But Kansas could launch in time for Week 1 of the NFL season!
As I said, it has been a busy week on the legal/ business side of sports betting.

Beginner's Beat: To Bet or Not To Bet…
That is the question many novice bettors often face. Should they put money down on a game or not? On the one hand, having a little something on a game does make watching it more compelling. I recently put a little money on the Orioles to make the playoffs. While I do not watch too many baseball games, it has made following the MLB season more fun.
But I did not bet on the Orioles to make following the MLB season more exciting. No, I did my homework on the Orioles first and can honestly say the chance to turn $5 into $50 was worth the risk (in my humble opinion).
I enjoy betting, but I never do it for the sake of betting. When I bet, I am confident in my wager. I've researched the player and/or teams involved and feel like I've chosen a winner. Do I always win? No, of course not. But in my short betting career, I have won more than I've lost.
So what's the lesson here? Do not bet for the sake of betting. Do so when you have done your homework and feel confident in your choice. You can't win if you don't bet. But you can't lose, either.
That's it for this edition of the Gaming Today Playbook. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much or more as I enjoyed writing it. No quote to close the GTP out this week. Instead, I want to share this clip of Lions HC Dan Campbell from Hard Knocks:
The Lions may not be a great team this season, but every time I listen to Campbell talk, I find myself hoping they will be. Anyway…bet wisely, my friends, and have a great weekend!
Until Next Week,
